His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolas Antonio Receives the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs in Cairo

Stressing on the Reactivation of the MECC Work in Egypt

Cairo, 15-3-2024

His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolas Antonio, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Tanta and Its Dependencies, received the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs, at the Archdiocese headquarters - Cairo.

Dr. Michel Abs was accompanied by the MECC Coordinator of Communication for Church Relations Lea Adel Maamary.

During the visit, an overview of the MECC work and the activities of the Fiftieth Year of Its Establishment, was made.

The Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs presented a detailed explanation of the Council’s aspirations regarding the activities that will be held in Egypt and many countries, commemorating half a century of the Council’s work. He also informed His Eminence Bishop Antonio of the opportunities regarding the possibility of reactivating the Council’s office in Egypt.

For his part, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolas Antonio commended what to what Dr. Abs presented about the Council’s activities on the occasion of the Fiftieth Year of its founding, and praised the importance of reactivating the Council’s office in Egypt for the good of the Church and human together.

After that, Dr. Michel Abs met with the two charitable societies, Saint Georges, and the Parish’s Council. He also visited the Church of the Archangels and received blessings from it.

In conclusion, both sides hoped that our countries would enjoy peace, security and stability and that wars would stop.
