Media Interviews Highlighting the MECC Work and Future Aspirations in Egypt

Many media interviews in Egypt summarized the work of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) throughout half a century of its founding. The Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs was a guest on AlKeraza TV Channel and spoke, in details, about the MECC founding, the stages it went through, and the services, projects, and activities that the Council currently implements serving humanity and supporting the relief work in which everyone, without exception, are concerned.

He also spoke via AlKeraza about the visits he made in Egypt, which included many activities that would be held on the occasion of the Fiftieth Year of the Council.

On MESAT TV channel, the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, and the MECC Associate Secretary General in Egypt Reverend Refaat Fikry spoke about the achievements that the Council has made despite the challenges it has experienced. They also talked about the meeting held with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, which led to fruitful and important results, including the reactivation of the Council’s office in Egypt and preparing for an activity that includes everyone on the occasion of the Fiftieth Year of its Founding.

In a message addressed by the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, through Akhbar Al Yawm newspaper and website in Egypt, stressed that unity includes all societies without discrimination, regardless of affiliation. As a Council, and through our social and cultural work, we serve our relations with people in accordance with the principle of human dignity and equality among all.

He also described what is happening in Gaza as genocide in every sense of the word, calling for the strengthening of stability because it ensures the continuation of people in these lands.

After that, Dr. Abs spoke, in details, about the Council’s work, projects, and future activities.

Regarding Egypt, he said:

“The Egyptian people are loving and kind people, bound together by relations of brotherhood and love based on peace, stability and tranquility.”
