Rescue Syria Campaign
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the North of the Antiochian Levant, families in Syria are experiencing today a new emigration wave and facing additional life difficulties as a result of this catastrophe. The earthquake was like a fatal blow after years of war in Syria that cast a shadow over the Syrian people. In fact, thousands of survivors fled to shelters, where they are sleeping on the ground amidst a severe cold wave, or even lived in tents set up in parks and streets.
His Beatitude Patriarch John X: We will not sink in fear and darkness because we are the children of light and not the children of darkness

Manal Bitar Reports the First Moments of Terror
Following the earthquake that hit the North of Antioch, the Syrians witnessed scenes of horror, in every sense of the word… Scenes that will remain forever in their minds. This is in addition to the exacerbation of the tragedy that did not leave them for a day, especially with the journey towards searching for safety that Syrian families lost from the warmth of their homes, which were destroyed and seconds in front of them.
Manal Bitar, one of the survivors of this earthquake who firstly took refuge in the Church, recalls in the video, and with deep sadness, the first moments of the disaster.
Around 3 weeks has passed since the devastating earthquake that struck the Northern Antiochian Levant. Syria is still crying out in pain, wounded and sad… Its affected and afflicted people were not even able to restore their lives with dignity after the war destroyed their hopes and dreams.
In moments and due to the earthquake... the Syrians lost their loved ones, and also memories that they are searching for among the ruins of their homes and properties which were destroyed in front of them. Therefore, a new journey started: searching for safety. In fact, Churches were the first refuge for the affected people, in addition to the shelters that received many families.

It is the same region that had witnessed massacres and displacement, acts of human making about a century ago. Today, it is witnessing massacres and displacement caused by nature.
It is the same scene recuring today one hundred years later.
Cities, villages, and farms are emptied of their inhabitants, who either die or leave.
You find them homeless in their own land, looking for a shelter that will keep them away from the open air and from the cold of winter, as well as seeking a garment that would help cover their bodies exhausted by homelessness and destitution, and food that would merely keep them at mere subsistence level... In short, they are looking for the minimal requirement needed for maintaining human dignity.
Between human-made disasters, and natural disasters, great harm has beset human beings. We are facing groups living in one of the most important regions of the East in terms of thought, culture and faith. Their cities were lighthouses in the field of the human sciences and theology, still shining forth and guiding those who excel in these fields in this day and age.

It takes just a few seconds and everything changes!
A few seconds are enough to turn buildings into ruins, stable families to homelessness, living people obliterated from the face of the earth, rich people into beggars, and flourishing cities into hidden remnants.
Seconds and everything turns into ashes!
The earthquake that hit the north of the Antiochian Levant reminded man, once again, how small, helpless, and worthless a creature he is without the protection of the Creator.
He who was arrogant, arbitrary, and oppressive, you find him transformed into a dependent creature, in need of the least necessities of life in order to go on living.
How petty you are, O creature armed with might, in front of the horror of nature created by the Creator, He whom you forget when you are at the peak of your power.
You forget that He, who suspended the earth on the waters, washed the feet of his disciples and gave Himself for you. In the height of your dominance, you forget.
