Hungarian Delegation’s Visit to the Armenian Protestant Community in Syria
On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the delegation of the "Hungary Helps" led by the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program, Dr. Tristan Azbej, paid a visit to the President of the Armenian Protestant Community in Syria, Reverend Dr. Haroutune Selimian.
The delegation became closely acquainted with the Community's Ecclesiastical, educational, medical and social services.
Reverend Selimian presented the contribution of the Hungarian state to the restoration and reconstruction of the community in order to heal the devastating consequences of the war in Syria.
In his address, Dr. Triztan Azpej emphasized the effective cooperation between the Hungarian state and the Armenian Protestant Community in Syria. He mentioned that the result of this cooperation is the newly built Armenian Evangelical Community Center of Syria.
The program included presentations on the achievements of the community in the spiritual, cultural and educational fields. During the visit, and in memory of the Armenian martyrs, Reverend Selimian and the delegation performed a wreath placing ceremony in front of the monument placed on the campus of the Bethel church.
The members of the delegation also visited the Armenian Evangelical Bethel Secondary School, where the students made many presentations of the educational activities of the school.
At the end of the visit, the guests visited the Community playground on the campus of Aleppo College for Girls.
In is noteworthy that the representatives of the Middle East Council of Churches and community bodies were also present on this momentous occasion.
