His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II Inaugurates Meltho International School in Erbil

On December 10, 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, inaugurated Meltho International School in Erbil.

The inauguration was also attended by His Eminence Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul, Kirkuk, Kurdistan and Environs. Her Excellency Mrs. Katalin Novak, President of Hungary, and His Excellency Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, were present at the inauguration as well as His Holiness Patriarch Mar Awa III, Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II was accompanied by their Eminences: Mor Timotheos Moussa Al-Shamani, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mor Matta Monastery, and Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury and a Delegation of Clergy from the Archdiocese of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs.

His Eminence Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf spoke about the different stages of constructing this important school, with the support of the Kurdistan Government and the Hungarian Government, during the most difficult times when Christians were persecuted and needed to be reassured to continue their presence in their homeland.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II spoke about the importance of education as a means to promote civilization and values, witnessing to the mission of the church to offer education to all people.
