Uprightness & Peace... Lesson #16 in a Series on “Wisdom Lessons from Psalm 37”, from His Holiness Pope Tawadros II

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, gave his weekly Wednesday sermon on the evening of Wednesday December 16th from the Papal Headquarters in Cairo. The sermon was broadcast live on several Christian satellite television channels, as well as over the Internet on the Church’s Coptic Media Center channel, COC. The sermon was given in the absence of a live congregation.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II continued his series of contemplations on wisdoms from Psalm 37, specifically teaching from verse 37 which says:
“Mark the blameless, and observe the upright; for there is a future for the person of peace” (NKJV, NASB).

His Holiness pointed out that a wise person is an upright person. He expanded upon this by discussing three aspects or dimensions where this verse may be applied, as follows:
Heavenly dimension: Mark the blameless person, because a blameless person always keeps their eye (attention) on the LORD.
Inner dimension: Observe the upright, in other words, being upright with oneself.
Outer dimension: For there is a future for the person of peace, [in other words, the importance of making] peace with others.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II also pointed out the following three things as being hindrances to a person’s uprightness:
Extremism: Extremism in general, whether in words, actions, or thoughts.
Pride: “Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall” (Prov 16:18 CSB).
Hypocrisy: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me” (Isa 29:13) …
