“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18: 20).

With these Holy Words, the team of the General Secretariat of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in Beirut continues its periodic meetings headed by the MECC Secretary General Professor Dr. Michel Abs, raising Prayers to the Lord Jesus for the intention of peace and justice in the Middle East and the world, for the suffering and marginalized people, and for every human being on this earth.

In its last meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the family of the MECC General Secretariat gathered around the Gospel of the Feast of the Presentation of Christ into the Temple, which was read by the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, the Media Officer at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), the Director of “The Platform of the Word” and the Coordinator of the Church and Media Relations at MECC, in an atmosphere of reverence, contemplation and fraternity, amidst an inner peace that filled the hearts of the worshipers.

Afterwards, colleagues from the MECC headquarters in Beirut participated in a Bible Meditation addressed online by Father Dr. Nicolas Bustros, the Dean of the Saint Paul Institute of Philosophy and Theology, in Harissa - Lebanon, and the Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), with an online participation of Reverend Dr. Rifaat Fikry, the Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and Mr. Ghassan Chahine, the Director of the Office of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in Syria.

For his part, Father Dr. Nicolas Bustros presented explanations about the Feast of the Presentation of Christ into the Temple, the Feast of Light or the Feast of Encounter, in addition to its importance in the life of people who are thirsty to meet God. He also spoke about the personalities of this historical Christian event and the most prominent meanings it reflects, stressing the need to give up what we own, open our hearts for the work of the Holy Spirit, and live faith, waiting, fasting and liberation.

It is worth noting that this meeting coincided with the International Day of Human Fraternity, which the world celebrates on February 4 of each year according to what was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, so that we may live fraternity and love in our lives, carrying the slogan of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) "Building Bridges, Standing Together."
