Momentum, the Weekly Newsletter from the Middle East Council of Churches
In the new issue of the weekly newsletter Momentum issued by the Communication and Public Relations Department of the Middle East Council of Churches the MECC General Secretariat issues its 2021 Annual Report under the title of "Against Wind and Waves: Challenging the Challenges". As for the message of the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, it was entitled this week “The sea is not a false witness” and came after the incident of the migrant boat that capsized off Tripoli in north Lebanon, with 75 people on board. Noting that around 23 people were missed, as search and rescue operations continue by land and sea, and 6 people have died. The Lebanese army rescued 45 people.
The issue also includes a statement in which MECC declare its support for the position of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, following the alarming developments in the city of Jerusalem and the restrictions imposed by the occupying power on worshipers and pilgrims to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, especially on the Holy Saturday.
As well as, the issue presents an interview in Arabic with the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs on “Al Hayat Al Jadida” website, about the Christian and Muslim presence in Jerusalem and the Middle East, following the restrictions imposed on worshipers at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
This is in addition to the MECC Ecumenical Calendar for April 2022, videos, the weekly Prayer, and news of the Middle Eastern Churches, especially the Liturgical celebrations made for the Holy Week and Easter at the Orthodox Churches, and the celebrations on the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.
Moreover, the issue presents a socio-economic overview of the Middle East during March 2021 and the latest updates of the Coronavirus in the region.
