The Middle East Council of Churches joins in prayer for the Maronite community of Argentina in the face of the terrible desecration that the San Maron Cathedral of the Maronite Diocese of Argentina suffered on September 24. The Maronite bishop of Argentina is H.E. Mgrs. Habib Chamieh O.M.M. who gave us an interesting interview (in Arabic, English, Spanish) in recent months.

The assailants broke the Tabernacle, where the Eucharistic Body of Christ is kept, and threw them on the floor. The intention was very bad, because they damaged the most sacred thing of the Church. In addition, they tore the altar cloths.

The Argentine Episcopal Conference expressed, through a communiqué, "its deepest solidarity with the Maronite community and with its bishop Habib Chamieh, upon learning that the Cathedral of St. Maron, in the Federal Capital, has been violated and the Holy Eucharist has been profaned".

The Argentinean bishops also said: "We unite in prayer asking for atonement and reparation for so much felt damage to the community and in communion we implore God's mercy before the moment of pain that these dear brothers of ours are going through".
