As part of the Eastern “Season of Creation” 2021 activities, and under the patronage of the Middle East Council of Churches, a campaign to clean up the Raouche Beach in Beirut, Lebanon, was implemented on Saturday, September 18, 2021, morning. It was entitled “Keep it Clean! Keep it Green!”. The campaign was organized by Youth and Students for Peace organization, Lebanese Scout Association, and Jerusalem See, Lebanon and the Near East, the Coptic Orthodox Church of Our Lady and Saint Mark the Apostle in Lebanon.
Representatives of the organizing groups, Church and Scout youth teams participated in the campaign. Participants were from many Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Sudan, as well as persons in charge and organizers were from South Korea and Italy. They all gathered in Raouche Beach to work together and clean it up aiming at protecting it from any negative repercussions that might harm it.
The campaign program included various activities and started with a game to break the ice between participants. Then, they all cleaned the beach side and collected the discarded waste in bags to put it at the end in the trash containers. This environmental project also included a boat trip around the Raouche Rock, during which the participants enjoyed the richness of Lebanon's water wealth.
This campaign contributed to enhancing environmental awareness among young people. Youth participants realized the importance of preserving the environment and the common home, the gift God has entrusted to us, and thus glorifying the Creator for all that he has given us.
