Due to low vaccination rates in the Middle East, countries have been experiencing an explosion of new cases and fatalities also linked to the spread of the highly transmissible delta variant.

Moreover, the virus is spreading in the region due to the presence many migrant workers from South Asia living in the Gulf and North Africa. What is perhaps the most alarming, is the number of young people, many of them unvaccinated, who are becoming seriously ill with the variant.
