Distribution of Vouchers in Akkar, Lebanon

Within the framework of its social role in serving people and preserving their dignity, the Middle East Council of Churches pursues its service mission in the field by supporting the destitute groups, especially in weak societies which are in need for a helping hand that sorrows hope among them. This time, in the rural villages of Akkar governorate, in northern Lebanon, where its habitants are facing the difficult living conditions as all the Lebanese in the country.

The Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, Beirut office, has prepared a new batch of aid, which authorize the beneficiaries to buy, through vouchers worth 450 thousand Lebanese pounds each, food items and necessary supplies.

Thus, the team distributed 134 vouchers in Tleil, Charbila and Haytla, to families and individuals in need, especially to those who lost their jobs or are without a source of income, especially elderly and widows. The department took into consideration the difficulty of transportation and allowed the beneficiaries to use the vouchers in near shops and supermarkets.

This aid program was implemented through the support of the Evangelical Church Federation in Germany (EMW) and in cooperation with the Churches in the region, which also contributed in identifying the targeted groups and facilitating the distribution process, while maintaining preventive measures against the Coronavirus.
