The Port of Beirut is Relieved of Hazardous Material!
In light of the 4th of August incedent last year, the removal of hazardous material from the port of beirut has become one of the top priorities of the teams on the ground. The ongoing work of such teams allowed the removal of forsaken dangerous materials and transporting them elsewhere to be disposed of. Such was the mission of German company Combi Lift, which has finished filling 59 containers with the substances. Since Lebanon has no hazardous waste storage or treatment facilities, the material will be transported to Europe, where they will stored or dealt with safely.
"The ship is here and so on the weekend we are leaving for Germany," Combi Lift CEO Heiko Felderhoff said during an event celebrating the disposal of the materials. The ceremony was organized by the German Embassy in Lebanon and Ambassador Andreas Kindl.
Berytech Helps 30 Companies
Within the framework of the European Union 2025 project to empower women, Berytech, a company which supports entrepreneurs, invited businesswomen whose companies were affected by the Beirut explosion on August 4, 2020, to apply for a support grant. Within 6 months, the company will identify 30 small and medium companies that can benefit from the cash grant of 150,000 euros, as a total amount, with each company getting 5,000 euros. To help them continue their activities, their needs will be evaluated, and the use of funds and grant disbursement will be determined. Berytech will also provide training courses on crisis management to help women overcome the current situation.
