  • In GoS-controlled areas of the country,(as of 18 Apr), the Syrian Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 21142 Laboratory-confirmed cases, 1446 fatalities, and 14841 Recoveries.

  • 21142 laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported by the Syrian MoH : 4819 in Damascus; 3247 in Lattakia; 2792 in Aleppo; 2682 in Homs; 2234 in Rural Damascus; 1672 in Tartous; 1123 in Dar’a; 1087 in Sweida; 850 in Hama; 419 in Quneitra; 133 in Deir-Ez-Zor; 76 in Al-Hasakeh and 8 in Ar-Raqqa.

  • The Director of Preparedness, Ambulance and Emergency at the Ministry of Health stated that there is a new increase in the number of active cases which are proven by the PCR test, as the highest number of active cases was recorded during the current month of April.

  • The number of recorded cases for which the PCR test was performed and their results appeared positive are from the cases that were being treated at home, indicating that more than one patient arrived at the hospital and their oxygen rate was 40% while they were in critical condition.

  • Hospital beds are full of positive and suspected cases, and the occupancy rate in intensive care ranges between 98 and 100 percent, but there was no need to transfer any patient outside his governorate. [2]

Preventive measures

  • On April 13, the Council of Ministers requested an extension of the work with the decision to suspend work or reduce the working hours in ministries and public agencies in a way that does not affect the economic and service activity until 24 April. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research was assigned to follow up the issue of working hours in universities and take appropriate action in this regard.[3]

  • Work continues to be extended by suspending and reducing working hours in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and its affiliated and associated entities until Thursday April 22.[4]

  • Extend the suspension of working hours in Syrian public, private universities and institutes until Saturday 4-24-2021.[5]

  • During this reporting period, the average number of cases dropped to 2129.

  • Although the government imposed a lockdown during Ramadan, there was little enforcement from security services.

  • The Minister of Public Health studied with the Minister of Tourism and Social Affairs the mechanism that will be adopted

  • The Minister of Public Health discussed with the Cuban ambassador to Lebanon the development in the production of Cuban vaccines, and the possibility of Lebanon's participation in clinical trials.

  • 45,801 minutes have been written against violators of the decisions of general mobilization since 01/14/2021

  • The General Directorate of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued Circular No. 15/2 of April 15, 2021 regarding procedures related to passengers arriving in Lebanon. Details can be found at:  http://drm.pcm.gov.lb/

  • The Minister of Education and Higher Education announced the return to blended learning before noon and after noon, starting from April 21, 2021 for high school diploma students, and on May 5, 2021 for intermediate and kindergarten certificates

  • Since 01/14/2021, 45,261 minutes have been written against violators of the closure decisions

  • The meeting of the Committee for Follow-up of Preventive Measures and Procedures for Coronavirus on April 14, 2021 recommended the resumption of activity in the educational sector in all its branches and stages.

  • The Ministry of Information has published, on its website, a new list containing 51 questions and answers about the Corona vaccine, developed in cooperation with the Ministries of Public Health and Information, the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
