Combi Lift: “what they found is equivalent to a second bomb in Beirut". Did the capital survive a new disaster?
Luqman Salim, a victim of the ongoing corruption in Lebanon
The German company “Combi Lift” which was tasked with disposing of chemicals in Beirut Port after the explosion that occurred on August 4, revealed that what it found there was a "second Beirut bomb." "What they found is equivalent to a second bomb in Beirut," said Heiko Felderhof, the managing director of the company that worked on processing 52 containers of extremely dangerous chemicals that were present in Beirut’s port. Local media reported that some of those 52 containers had badly rotten, revealing that 1,000 tons of chemicals had been found in total.
“The danger is still there. There are five destroyed ships in the port that must be disposed of, and we will carry out this mission. We must say it as it is: What we found here was a second Beirut bomb. I've never seen anything like it before." He added.
Following his statement, one can induce that things could have been worse. Just what level of destruction was the perpetrator hoping for? How large where his malicious intentions?
In another recent development, the humanitarian activist Lokman Slim, was assassinated adding to the death toll residing beneath the hegemonic and secretive apparatus governing us. Just like the hundreds of Lebanese assassinated during the August 4 blast, just like those that have been mysteriously killed throughout the years, he joins the roster of victims.
Hopefully with the renewed American and French insistence to uncover the truth, form a government and to help the country tackle the high levels of corruption, this year, the country might embark onto a new phase. There is so doubt the recent assassinations are the acts of a desperate and decaying system, whose expiry date is drawing near.
