Online Meeting and Evaluation of the Implementation Phase

Following up on the work of the “The Restoration Fund for rehabilitation of faith-based social services & religious infrastructure damaged during the crisis in Syria” program, members of the Committee in charge of following up on the program held an electronic meeting which the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs attended for the first time after his election. He met the members of the committee and representatives of the churches benefiting from the program in Syria. He made a speech in which he stressed on the Council’s adherence to the cause of building humanity and buildings restoration in this East, origin of Christianity, where the light of Christ shone onto the world. Reprisentative of the donor organization "Churches Together" in the Netherlands Dick Loendersloot and Communication Officer Tineke van der Stok also attended the meeting.

Representative of the Syriac Orthodox Church Father Boutros Kassis chaired the meeting during which a presentation of each facility to be restored was shared with its cost, the required restoration timeframe and the stage of construction reached. Construction is being handled by Engineer Nemer Haddad from the office of the Middle East Council of Churches in Damascus.

This ecumenical initiative launched by the Middle East Council of Churches in cooperation with "Churches Together" organization in the Netherlands about a year ago brings together all churches in Syria despite the economic and financial obstacles and the Coronavirus pandemic .... because building hope is stronger.
