Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs Highlights the MECC Ecclesiastical and Humanitarian Mission on Télé Lumière and Noursat

The Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs was the guest of an episode entitled “You are the salt of the earth” as part of the TV program “La Takhaf” (which means “don’t be afraid”) on Monday, November 1, 2021, live on Télé Lumière and Noursat and the MECC Facebook page.

The episode was prepared and presented by Father Charbel El Khoury and started with an introduction that tackled the message of Dr. Michel Abs entitled "You are the salt of the earth: trust, testimony, and role", which was published in the latest issue of Momentum, the weekly newsletter issued by MECC.

The episode included many segments, during which the Secretary General Dr. Abs highlighted the MECC history and its most prominent stages. As well as the various work fields of the Council that aims at achieving its mission. Dr. Abs said that MECC is qualified to work in any new field especially in cooperating between different religious groups. He also spoke about the Christian role and presence in the Middle East and the challenges that the Eastern Christians are facing.

Dr. Michel Abs also mentioned the interfaith dialogue, and explained the practical side of the Human Fraternity Document launched by His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar in Abu Dhabi. He also spoke about human dignity and the dangers it is exposed to, especially in the region, revealing the Human Dignity project that the Council is working to launch.

Secretary General Dr. Abs presented the MECC humanitarian mission and programs that aims at supporting the neediest groups, and mentioned the MECC relief role following the Beirut Port Blast.  

In addition, the episode included phone calls and an interview with the field officer of Caritas Youth Lebanon Roy Bachaalany.
