The Middle East Council of Churches Supports Women Psychosocially Through Enhancing their Skills

As part of the Psychosocial Support program, the Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, Beirut office, at the Middle East Council of Churches, organized 6 training sessions aiming at accompanying the most vulnerable groups in overcoming daily difficulties and stress.

A group of women participated in the sessions. Noting that they struggle with mental health issues of all types and severity due to loneliness. The sessions also supported some of the women who suffer from Gender-Based violence, cultural isolation from other and due to the trauma of their past situation.

With the support of a trainer, the sessions taught women the skill of painting on wood, and addressed their mental health needs providing two levels of intervention. In large groups through art techniques, and additional sessions in smaller groups for those who have higher mental health needs.

At the end of the sessions, the participants received a kit of wood, paint and other supplies to encourage them to produce.

This program was implemented in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization Norwegian Church Aid - NCA.
