A Crochet Training in Rural Damascus
MECC organized a crochet training for 19 women aged between 18 to 45 from Rural Damascus.
The trainees learned the basic principles of crocheting and the way to use one needle to crochet squares and gather them to form different shapes, such as: table covers, bed covers, blankets, shawls and other cloths or crafts that can be knitted with crochet.
At the end of the one-month training, participants received tool kits including all important tools that would enable them to start up their own business. One of the participants said that she did not know how to hold the crochet needle or how to weave, but by the end of the course, she was able to knit a table cover and a jacket.
She added, “I thought that crocheting was very difficult and complicated, but I had to learn it as it was very important to me to work and help my husband support our family. After a week, I was able to knit with a crochet hook and at the end of the course, I was very proud to have crocheted a table cover and a jacket”.
