The Role of Faith-Based Organizations in Addressing Displacement in MENA

An initial workshop organized by the UNHCR in Jordan

In preparation for the Global Refugee Forum, the UNHCR, in collaboration with its regional office in Amman, has organized a workshop entitled “The Role of Faith-Based Organizations in Addressing Displacement in MENA” on 14 November in Jordan.

The participants in the first roundtable included The Middle East Council of Churches, Adyan Foundation, the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies in Jordan, and many social and religious organizations from the Arab world. The discussions centered on the religious institutions’ contributions and common principles, and on their approach in addressing the refugee crisis; This approach aims at the positive integration of refugees in host countries in addition to the provision of services.

The discussions revolved around means of protecting human dignity, promoting international cooperation and solidarity with refugees and host countries, in addition to recommendations made to be submitted at the Global Refugee Forum that will be held in Geneva on 17 and 18 December 2019.
