H.B Louis Raphaël Sako: The demonstrators in Iraq and Lebanon are united by one concern
And the Church must act in favor of the poor and the oppressed
His Beatitude Mar Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans and President of the Middle East Council of Churches for the Catholic Family, expressed his solidarity with the demonstrators in Lebanon and Iraq and their rightful demands, calling on the Church to a prophetic initiative, he said: The demonstrators in Iraq and Lebanon are one and have a single common sense. They demonstrated: the peacefulness of demonstrations and the legitimacy of demands from political reform, fighting corruption and recovering stolen funds, to demanding a pluralist civil state and a free and dignified life. Demonstrators in both countries, seeking justice and social solidarity, broke sectarian and quota barriers, and affirmed a single national identity. I salute them and express my solidarity with them in their loud cry, and I feel that Christ accompanies them by saying and doing: "Let them have life and abundance." I believe that the Church must move with all its might for a prophetic movement in favor of the poor and the oppressed.
