Celebrating Sayat Nova: A Musical Tribute by the Shonorhali Choir under the auspices of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I

Under the auspices of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Holy See of Cilicia, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches, the “Shonorhali” choir of the Catholicosate of Cilicia presented a celebration of Sayat Nova’s legacy on Wednesday evening, March 26, 2025, at the Hagop Der Melkonian Theater in the Armenian neighborhood of Bourj Hammoud.
The choir, led by V. Rev. Fr. Zaven Nadjarian, was accompanied by a live band featuring Hampig Mardirossian on piano, Kevin Solakian on organ, Raffi Tchilinguirian on doudouk, and Nareg Keshishian on dhol. The event was hosted by Hrag Mamigonian and Mary Ekmekjian, who shared the stories behind each song during interludes, creating a narrative around Sayat Nova’s art.
At the conclusion of the event, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I took the stage to commend the performers and organizers. He described the event as uplifting and expressed hope that such gatherings become more frequent in community life.
