His Beatitude Patriarch John X from Balamand: "The journey of Great Lent is a journey of light and purification."

Balamand, March 16, 2025

His Beatitude Patriarch John X, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and President of the Middle East Council of Churches for the Orthodox Family, emphasized the significance and sanctity of the days of Great Lent. His words came during the Sunday liturgy he presided over at the Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand. The liturgy was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri. In his sermon, His Beatitude highlighted the importance and centrality of Great Lent in the lives of Christians. He stressed the significance of a life of repentance and enlightenment, which the church places before its believers. This is exemplified by the dedication of the second Sunday of Lent to the commemoration of Saint Gregory Palamas, who served as an exemplary figure of enlightenment and purification.
