His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Receives a Delegation from the Romanian Orthodox Church on a Pilgrimage to Egypt

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, received today at the Papal Residence in Cairo a delegation from the Romanian Orthodox Church. The delegation came to Egypt on a pilgrimage and to visit its tourist landmarks, including several sites along the Holy Family’s journey in Egypt.
The delegation included bishops from the Romanian Orthodox Church:
● His Grace Bishop Nicodim, Bishop of Severin and Strehaia.
● His Grace Bishop Andrei, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita.
● His Grace Bishop Gerontie, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara.
● His Grace Bishop Nestor, Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara.
Additionally, the delegation included a group of priests, monks, young men, and women from the mentioned dioceses.
His Holiness welcomed them and provided an overview of Egypt’s rich history and the foundation of the Coptic Orthodox Church. He also briefly outlined the seven civilizations that have influenced Egypt: Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic, Arabic, African, Mediterranean, and Greco-Roman.
His Holiness also spoke about the Holy Family’s journey, the Era of Martyrdom experienced by the Church in the early centuries, and the monastic movement that originated from the Coptic Church through Saint Anthony, the Father of Monasticism.
Furthermore, His Holiness highlighted the historical relationship between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Romanian Orthodox Church.
He also praised the balanced relationships the Church maintains with all state institutions, commending the love and cooperation between the Church, His Excellency the President, the government, Al-Azhar, and other churches.
The meeting was attended by Father Mina Talaat, priest of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Bucharest.
