GALILEE - On Monday, May 15th, 2023, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, visited the seminarians of the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in the Galilee to listen to their impressions and experiences of the ending academic year.
The visit began with a meeting with the formators and seminarians, during which the Patriarch commented on the results of the recent symposium of the Middle Eastern Churches in Cyprus, as well as the continental phase of the synod requested by His Holiness Pope Francis. He also reviewed the intense work of the past year and recalled the challenges and sufferings of the Church of Jerusalem, which are an integral part of the priestly mission.
Willing to listen to the concerns of the seminarians, who come from sixteen different countries, the Patriarch spent most of his visit devoting individual time to each of them, in order to get to know them better and to accompany and encourage them in their process of formation for the priesthood. The twenty-five seminarians present were thus able to freely share their questions about the ecclesial reality in the Holy Land.
Later, during the homily, His Beatitude reflected on the reality of the world, in which it is increasingly difficult to find a vision of faith. He also recalled the work done in the original Church to maintain the first Christian communities.
The Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary was founded in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem fifteen years ago, and has trained 18 priests who serve in the parishes of the diocese or in itinerant missions in various countries of the world.
