His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II Presides Over the Holy Qurobo on the Occasion of Palm Sunday at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma, Damascus

On April 9, 2023, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, celebrated the Holy Qurobo on the occasion of Palms Sunday, at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma, Damascus, Syria.

During the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Cyril Babi, Patriarchal Vicar for the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant.

In his sermon, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II spoke aboutthe journey of the great lent that is an opportunity for us to discipline ourselves, strengthen our faith, straighten our behavior and conquer our desires. He pointed out that the people who welcome the Lord Jesus with palm branches and shouting Hosanna when He entered Jerusalem, was following Him after witnessing the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. But the Lord Jesus did not enter the city as a conquering earthly king, He went on a donkey because of His humility and modesty. His Holiness emphasized that we must learn from the children to simply proclaim our faith in the Lord and in His power to defeat death and sin. His Holiness added that our world needs the Lord to reign over our hearts and lead us to our salvation…
