His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II Meets His Excellency Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President to the Federal Republic of Brazil at the Presidential Palace in Brasilia

Due to illness, His Excellency Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President to the Federal Republic of Brazil, apologized for not being able to receive guests, and His Excellency Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President received His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, at the Presidential Palace in Brasilia on March 27, 2023.

His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Titus Boulos Touza, Apostolic Delegate for the Syriac Missions in Brazil, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, during this visit.

During the meeting, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II spoke about the current situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria. He explained the difficulties that the people are facing in their daily lives.

His Holiness pointed out that the church is playing an important role at this stage and offering every possible help to support the faithful to remain in their homeland. He asked His Excellency to continue to offer support for the people of Syria.

His Excellency Vice President Alckmin expressed his sympathies with the Syrian people and spoke about the efforts that Brazil is offering in the region as well as the resolve to continue work to reach suitable and complete solutions for the crises.
