His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Consecrates St. George’s Church, Gazirat Badran, Shoubra
On Saturday March 11, 2023, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, consecrated St. George’s Church, Gazirat Badran, Shoubra, Egypt, which is affiliated with the Southern Shubra Churches District , after the completion of the renovations that were carried out in it.
Upon his arrival at the church, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II removed the curtain from the commemorative plaque that dates its consecration. Commemorative photos were taken of His Holiness next to the plaque, along with His Grace Bishop Makari, the general bishop of the churches of the southern Shubra sector, and the priests of the consecrated Church.
Then the procession of His Holiness went inside the church to begin the consecration prayers. The main altar of the church located on the first floor was consecrated on the name of St George the martyr, the main altar of the church on the ground floor was consecrated after the name of St George the Martyr and St. Pope Kyrollos VI, and another altar was consecrated after the name of the St Virgin Mary.
In his speech after the consecration, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II gave thanks to the church’s priests, council, and deacons. His Holiness pointed out that the Church is distinguished by the fact that His Holiness Pope Shenouda III visited it and consecrated its baptism and some icons. Saint Pope Kyrollos VI also visited it and dedicated an altar there on the name of Saint Anba Bishoy, as well as His Holiness late Pope Yusab II in 1951.
His Holiness and the attending fathers prayed the Divine Liturgy, after the consecration, and delivered a sermon , during which His Holiness presented three tips that help people renew and beautify themselves during the period of great lent, which are:
1- Repentance: That is, a person works to make his soul repentant, and hastens to constantly purify the heart.
“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”(Luke 15:7 )…
