GOPA-DERD Team Continues Implementing Relief and Emergency Response work in the Areas Affected by the Earthquake in Syria
In Hama, GOPA-DERD’s team, affiliated to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, visited the National Hospital and the affected area in the Al-Arba’een neighborhood, and provided meals to the civil defense personnel and those working to remove rubble in this area, as well as to the injured, their families, and the medical staff in the hospital. The team also carried out field visits to conduct a needs assessment for the affected people displaced from Aleppo and Latakia to Kfarbo area in Hama, to provide the necessary aid in terms of food items, drinks, blankets and clothes, in addition to distributing food kits to the affected families in Suqaylabiyah and its countryside.
In Latakia, GOPA-DERD team provided a wide range of medicines to Tishreen University Hospital to treat the injured, in addition to food items for the injured families arriving at the National Hospital, and distributed a set of winter clothes to the injured arriving at Al-Assad University Hospital, in addition to distributing food kits at Al-Basil Shelter.
GOPA-DERD’s team in Latakia also provided food kits to the displaced families and individuals at the halls of the Churches that opened their doors to receive those who lost their homes. Also, children kits were distributed in the hall of Yassin Mosque, in addition to distributing a large number of blankets, and providing meals to workers and to those who lost their homes in Raml Junubi district. The team also provided Jableh National Hospital with blankets, bed sheets, nebulizers and blood pressure measuring devices, and emergency medicines necessary for emergency cases.
In Aleppo, GOPA-DERD’s team secured basic daily necessities to receive the affected families, whose number is estimated at 1,000, in the halls of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Elias, in addition to securing family kits and general hygiene kits that meet the needs of displaced persons to the two schools "Gaza" in the area of Bustan al-Basha, and al-Asma'i in Suleiman al-Halabi.
GOPA-DERD's engineering team in Aleppo also began field visits to dozens of damaged families' homes to provide them with assistance by repairing cracks and striations caused by the earthquake.
