His Holiness Catholicos Aram I Follows Closely the Updates on the Aftermath of the Devastating Earthquake in Syria
Following the earthquake which hit the region on Monday, February 6th, 2023, the Armenian Church, Catholicosate of Cilicia issued the following statement:
On Monday, February 6th, 2023, following the devastating earthquake, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Holy See of Cilicia, remained in constant contact with the spiritual and lay leadership of the Armenian community in Syria to closely follow the aftermath and updates.
- According to the latest update, the Armenian community in Aleppo has 4 casualties. It also bears the most substantial structural damage, while Latakia and Kessab suffer relatively mild damage.
- The local Armenian leadership has set up seven shelters for those in need to find refuge in.
- On behalf of the Catholicosate, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I has allocated financial assistance to procure food for the sheltered families.
- His Holiness has also extended a condolence letter to the president of Syria Bashar al Assad and expressed his solidarity with its citizens.
