Under the Directives of His Beatitude Patriarch John X, GOPA-DERD Pursues its Relief Work in Syria

In the areas afflicted by the earthquake, and through vigorous efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster following the directives of His Beatitude Patriarch John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the level of faith in actions is rising among GOPA-DERD's team, the only official charitable arm of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East.

In Aleppo, in response to the urgent needs of the affected people, who are temporarily residing in shelters within schools, GOPA-DERD's team provided family hygiene kits and food items for families in Salim Melko Jerbaqa School in Al-Haydariya district, and Queen Zenobia School in Al-Izaa’a area.

GOPA-DERD's engineering team in Aleppo is also following up on the response work by placing warning signs for dangerous buildings, in cooperation with UNMAS, and based on the decisions of the evaluation committees formed by the Engineers Syndicate in Aleppo.

In Hama, GOPA-DERD's engineering team continue their inspection tours of the buildings and houses that were cracked by the earthquake, in preparation for providing the required response. In addition, the team is continuing to meet the needs of the affected families displaced from Aleppo and Latakia to Suqaylabiyah and Wadi al-Nasara, by distributing food items, clothes and medicines. The volunteers also carried out a touring visit with a doctor for cases that required medical follow-up.

GOPA-DERD's team in Latakia continue the emergency response in Jableh, with the support of Homs team being their with them on the ground, by distributing healthy food items, clothes, milk and baby diapers in Ghazl and Sanaa, and the village of Bsaisin.

The team also distributed ready-to-eat food to many affected families in the city of Latakia, and to those affected in the shelter center in Hittin School, in cooperation with WFP.
