His Beatitude Patriarch John X Mourns the Victims of the Giza Church

Damascus, August 16th, 2022

His Beatitude Patriarch John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, sent a letter of condolence to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, following the fire that ripped through the Giza Church.
His Beatitude Patriarch John X wrote: My letter coincides with the season of dormition of the Most Holy Virgin Mary. Hence, we ask for her omnipresent divine tenderness.

With deep sorrow and with the hope of resurrection, I was informed of the fire that broke out at the Church of St. "Abu Sefein" in Giza Governorate. My sincere condolences go out to you and, through you, to the families of the victims and to the children of the Coptic Orthodox Church in general. I ask the Almighty God to entrust you, as well as the children of the Coptic Orthodox Church, with His divine providence. We plead for God’s mercy for those who passed away today, and I pray for a speedy recovery for the wounded and injured.

May the Father of Lights visit them with divine mercy and instill divine consolation in your hearts.
