His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Witnesses the Celebration of “The Coptic Press and Periodicals, One Hundred and Fifty Years of Service to the Church and the Country”:
The 3rd of December, an Annual Anniversary for the Coptic Press
On the evening of Saturday 3 December 2022, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, witnesses the Celebration of the “Coptic Press and Periodicals, One Hundred and Fifty Years of Service to the Church and the Country”, that was held at the New Administrative Building that is affiliated to the Papal Residence at St Mark’s Cathedral in Abbaseya, Egypt.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II inaugurated an exhibition for magazines and periodicals that were published over the last 150 years which are more than 360 Coptic magazines.
The magazines and periodicals included in the celebration are:
Sunday School, which was published in 1947 (75 years)
Watani, which was published in 1958 (64 years)
Morkos, which was published in 1962 (60 years)
The Message of the Church, which was published in 1963 (59 years)
El Keraza, which was published in 1965 and since 1972 it has been the official magazine for the Church (57 years)
The celebration included speeches by His Grace Bishop Macarius, Bishop of Minya and the supervisor of El Keraza magazine, as well as speeches by the representatives of the magazines and periodicals. A documentary was then presented and the celebration was concluded by a speech by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II in which His Holiness started by having an open discussion with the participants in the celebration where His Holiness have listened to their questions and commented on them.
About the celebration, His Holiness said: “This evening is a unique evening in the history of the Church, as perhaps these five publications have not met together in one occasion before”.
