His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Consecrates El-Malak El-Bahary Church, Hadaeq Al Qubbah, Cairo
On November 21, 2022, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, with the participation of a number of Bishops, consecrated El-Malak El-Bahary Church, Hadaeq Al Qubbah, Cairo, after it has been renovated.
The history of establishment of this church goes back to over 130 years, as it was built in 1893. The main altar is named on Archangel Michael, another altar is named on St. Mary, St. Joachim and St. Anne and another altar named on St. Anthony and St. Paul.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II unveiled the commemorative plaque that dates the church’s consecration upon arrival and took a memorial picture with H.G. Bishop Mikhael, General Bishop of Hadaia El Qobba and El-Waili, Cairo, and with other Bishops who have attended the prayers.
His Holiness also have visited the gallery of photos and the church’s belongings that contains historical pictures, some of which are for the visits of His Holiness Pope Kirollos VI, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III and His Holiness Pope Tawadros II visits, as well as old church’s belongings.
The procession of His Holiness then headed to the church to start the prayers of consecration. After the prayers, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and His Eminence Metropolitan Danial, Metropolitan of Maadi and Holy Synod Secretary, and the Bishops have signed an inauguration document of the Church.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and the Bishops have then prayed the Liturgy, during which His Holiness delivered a sermon where His Holiness explained the Gospel of the Liturgy which was a part of Matthew chapter 13 and has three of the parables of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1. The parable of tares and wheat – and this makes us think of the question: why is there evil in the world? H.H. then emphasized that is parable invites us to think and look towards Heaven and not to stop at negative matters…
