His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo for the first time in Budapest

On August 29, 2021, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, celebrated the Holy Qurobo for the first time in Budapest.
He was assisted by his Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Archbishop of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs, in the presence of His Eminence Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director. The Qurobo was attended by a small group of faithful due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about this historical day in which the Divine Liturgy is celebrated for the first time in Budapest according to the Syriac Orthodox Rite. He thanked His Excellency Mr Victor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, and the people of Hungary for the constant support of the Christians in the Middle East. He also appreciated the role of His Excellency Minister Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of the Persecuted Christians, who always offers help and who welcomed the celebration of the Holy Qurobo in the Chapel of the martyrs at the headquarters of the State Secretariate.
