The following is the Prayer of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, His Beatitude Patriarch John X:

On this exact day last year, hearts were agitated by the tragedy at the port of Beirut. This tragedy ravaged our Lebanese reality and took away our loved ones. Today, we pray to the Father of lights, for Him to admit them to His heavenly light, to anoint them with the kindness of His mercy, and to soothe the hearts of their families with condolences.

Our prayers today are consecrated to our loved ones, who have perished due to the blast. Our prayer is for God to wipe away the tears from their family members’ eyes and from our eyes. Today, we join our hearts together and commemorate our departed brothers. We commemorate the Beirut Fire Brigade and the St. George Hospital staff. We commemorate many loved ones, who were affected by the horrors of the disaster. Despite everything, we remember that it is the will of life that will overcome, wipe away the tears of pain, draw the smile of tomorrow and make Lebanon rise again.

O Virgin, purify our hearts. O Virgin, relieve our distress.

O Virgin, have mercy on who have died. O Virgin, heal our Lebanon and protect our Beirut.

O Virgin, soothe the wounds of the distressed, and have mercy on the displaced and the homeless.

Put the scalpel of your mercy in the hands of the doctors and support the medical staff.

O Virgin, eradicate our passions, calm the fearful, and soothe the fear with the peace of Christ Jesus. Blessed and Glorified be the Christ, forever, Amen.
