His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II inaugurated the “Christmas Market 2021” in Damascus

On December 18, 2021, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II inaugurated the “Christmas Market 2021” in the garden of the Syriac Martyrs in Damascus, Syria.

St. Aphrem Patriarchal Syriac Scouts walked in a procession where the brass band performed on the musical instruments the different special melodies for Christmas. Then St. Ephrem Patriarchal Choir performed a group of Syriac hymns and folk songs on the occasion of Christmas.

In his speech, Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II appreciated this initiative which brings joy to the hearts of the people in this season of Christmas. He emphasized that the true meaning of Christmas is when every person feels the joy to give to others even when we are in need. He explained that Christmas is an occasion to show love towards each other and share the blessings that the Lord bestowed upon us.

This inauguration was attended by His Excellency Deputy Governor of Damascus, Mr. Ahmad Alnabulsy, and Secretary of the Party Mr. Husam Alsamman.

Their Excellencies: Armenian Orthodox Archbishop of Damascus Armash Nalbandian, Maronite Archbishop of Damascus Msgr. Samir Nassar, Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Damascus Mor Youhanna Jehad Battah, and Rev. Fr. Raymond Gergess, were also present at the inauguration.

Their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Anthimos Jack Yacoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Archbishop of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs, Mor Yacoub Babawi Patriarchal Vicar for Monks Affairs and Administration of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya, Mor Cyril Babi, Patriarchal Vicar for the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, were also present.
