A Wise Person is a Loyal Person, Lesson #11 in a Series on “Lessons in Wisdom from Psalm 37” from His Holiness Pope Tawadros II

This news is also available in Arabic.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, gave his weekly Wednesday sermon last Wednesday evening, from the Papal Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. The sermon was broadcast live on several Christian satellite television channels, as well as over the Internet on the Church’s Coptic Media Center channel, COC. The sermon was given in the absence of a live congregation.

The sermon was a reflection on verses 21-24 and 30-31 from Psalm 37, whereby H.H. discussed the point that a wise person is a loyal person, and that the greatest image of this faithfulness and loyalty was demonstrated from the cross, for while He was in His greatest pain, the Lord Christ committed St. John the apostle to take care of Virgin Mary, likewise, He also committed Virgin Mary to take care of His disciple, John, teaching us that a loyal person honors their father and mother.

Consequently, the stages and steps of such a person’s life will be steadfast, and strong in every area of their life, whether in their Church-life, in their Church ministry service, in their community, in their nation, and in humanity as a whole.

Also, H.H. recounted the characteristic traits of the virtue of loyalty and of a loyal person, according to Psalm 37.

He serves others – compared to “the wicked person, he borrows and does not repay, but the righteous shows mercy and gives” (verse 21).

He is a blessed person – “For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, but those cursed by Him shall be cut off” (verse 22).

He brings joy to others – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way” (verse 23).

He supports others and helps them – “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand” (verse 24) …
