Dr. Reverend Andrea Zaki, the President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt, received Professor Michel Abs, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and a delegation from the Council, which included Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, the Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) and the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, the Media Officer, the Coordinator of the Church and Media Relations, and the Director of "The Platform of the Word" at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC).
The delegation was received by Reverend Refaat Fathi, the Secretary General of the Evangelical Synod of the Nile, Mrs. Samira Louka, the Senior Head of the Dialogue Sector at the Coptic Evangelical Organization, Sheikh Essam Wassef, the Director of Public Relations at the Coptic Evangelical Organization, and Mr. Youssef Edward, the Director of Media at the Coptic Evangelical Organization.
During the meeting, Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki welcomed Professor Michel Abs, expressing his happiness with this visit that reflects the spirit of cooperation and integration between the Churches in the region, stressing the pivotal role played by the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in supporting the Ecumenical work and promoting the values of Christian unity. He said:
"We appreciate the role played by the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in strengthening the relations between the Churches and promoting the spirit of love and cooperation, and the Evangelicals in Egypt are committed to supporting this path, and we see the Council as a prominent sign of Christian unity in the Middle East. We affirm our continued support for its path aimed at achieving constructive dialogue and fruitful cooperation between all the Churches."
In his turn, Professor Michel Abs praised the active role played by the Evangelical Churches in supporting the Ecumenical work, referring to their historic contribution to the establishment of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) more than nine decades ago. He said:
"Evangelicals played a fundamental role in the establishment of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) since the 1920s, specifically in 1929, and they are still at the forefront of the initiatives supporting Christian unity and Ecumenical work in Egypt and the region. We always feel happy when we visit you, as we notice a real commitment to the spirit of love and Ecumenical partnership."
At the end of the visit, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs offered to Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki, the logo of the Fiftieth Year of the MECC Founding as a token of love and appreciation.
