The Coordinator of the MECC EcoJustice Unit Archdeacon Garen Meets His Holiness Pope Tawadros II. The Meeting Centered on the Importance of Environmental Theology
Archdeacon Garen, the Coordinator of the EcoJustice Unit at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), visited His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, congratulating His Holiness on the New Year, Christmas, and Epiphany holidays at the beginning of the year according to the Julian calendar and the Feast of the Circumcision on January 14, 2025.
The visit was attended by the Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Gerges Saleh, the President of the Ecumenical Youth Committee in Egypt Mr. Medhat Fayez, the Vice President Mr. Nour Bahnan, the Director of the Armenian Genocide Orphans Museum, Aram Bezikian, Archdeacon Maestro Krikor El-Wazian, Deacon Kyrillos Wehbeh, and Agnostos Samuel Ibrahim.
A detailed explanation was given about the Season of Creation and the work of this unit within the Middle East Council of Churches and the awareness activities that the unit is implementing in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the support of Danmission. Then, Archdeacon Garen asked His Holiness to describe the Environmental Theology in the Coptic Church and its importance today in our modern world and its role in the life of the Church in general.
Archdeacon Garen thanked the young people who are working on the preparations for the meetings in Egypt.
Afterwards, the President of the Ecumenical Youth Committee Mr. Medhat Fayez presented the activities of the Ecumenical youth work. After receiving His Holiness’s blessing, everyone toured the pavilion dedicated to the new Popes and Martyrs who fell in Libya, St. Peter’s and all over Africa as a testimony to their faith in Christ. It was a contemplative moment centered around the civilization of faith and testimony in our world today.
