The MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs Visits the Chaldean Diocese of Aleppo

The Chaldean Bishop of Aleppo His Eminence Bishop Antoine Audo, and Father Farid Boutros, received the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs, and his accompanying delegation, which included the Director of the MECC Office in Aleppo Ms. Lamis Makhoul, and the MECC Coordinator of Church and Media Relations Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, at the Diocese Headquarters – Aleppo.

The meeting included many topics that concern the Church in today’s world, the most prominent of which were the existential challenge and the dilemma of emigration, strengthening Christian ties amidst challenges, emphasizing that the Church should be the voice of hope and dialogue, as well as the need to strengthen the Ecumenical spirit so that it remains alive, because our witness is one in these lands, so we must to complement each other and do our best to survive.

Bishop Audo also thanked Dr. Michel Abs for all the initiatives made by the Council in the Syrian regions of Al-Jazeera and Al-Hasakah. He also congratulated Dr. Abs on his re-election for a new term of four years, praising his openness and balanced performance.

For his part, Dr. Michel Abs thanked Bishop Audo and Father Farid Boutros for their lovely reception, stressing that: “

The Council is in a sustainable spiritual, developmental and social workshop, working with and for everyone, and this is what enhances the Ecumenical spirit. The Council also aims to create a network among everyone at various levels.”

At the end, Bishop Audo offered the Secretary General some books to keep in his private library as a Church knowledge archive.
