An International Ecumenical Online Celebration for the Beginning of the Season of Creation

Sunday 1 September 2024, at 4 pm Beirut time

The Middle East Council of Churches

The “Season of Creation” begins in the Middle East and the world on September 1 with the Feast of Creation, or Creation Day, also called the Day of Prayer for Creation or World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Ecology.

On this occasion, the season, which this year carries the theme “To hope and act with Creation,” will be inaugurated in an international Ecumenical online celebration, at the invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis, His Beatitude the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, His Beatitude Archbishop Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury and Head of the Anglican Church, as well as many Heads of Churches and Ecumenical Leaders from around the world, in addition to the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and concerned organizations and institutions.

The celebration will be held on Sunday 1 September 2024, at 4 pm Beirut time. You can join it through the official “Season of Creation” channel on YouTube, by clicking here. Noting that the celebration will include an Ecumenical Prayer Service and reflections on the “Season of Creation” and the theme of this year. It will be led by international Christian Leaders, including Anba Thomas, Bishop of Al-Qusiya and Mir, Assiut for the Coptic Orthodox Church, and Founder of the Anaphora Center in Egypt.

Let us participate together in this Ecumenical and environmental celebration, and let us raise our Prayers to God the Creator, proclaiming with one heart, “May your Creator Spirit help us in our weakness, so that we may know the redeeming power of Christ and the hope found in him. May the groans of the Spirit birth in us a willingness to serve you faithfully, so that we may hear and heal Creation, to hope and act together with her, so that the firstfruits of hope may blossom” (from the “Season of Creation” Prayer 2024).
