Under the Patronage of the Most Blessed His Beatitude Patriarch John X

A Ceremony on the Occasion of the Centenary of His Eminence Bishop Georges Khodr at the Invitation of the MJO General Secretariat

Under the patronage of His Beatitude Patriarch John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and President of the Middle East Council of Churches for the Orthodox Family, and on the occasion of the Centenary of the Birth of His Eminence Bishop Georges Khodr, the General Secretariat of the Orthodox Youth Movement (MJO) held a ceremony to launch a workshop centering around the thought of its Chief Founder and its various influences.

The ceremony was held on Saturday 6 July 2024, at La Sagesse University - Beirut, in the presence of Their Eminences Bishops, Priests and Deacons from various Dioceses, as well as social, cultural, judicial and political personalities. In addition, attendees were the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs, and his wife, the theologian and writer Dr. Frida Abs, the Secretary General of the Orthodox Youth Movement (MJO) Mr. Elie Kebbeh, Former MJO Secretaries General, Heads of MJO centers, and MJO members in Lebanon.

Firstly, the general titles of the workshop on the thought of His Eminence Bishop Georges Khodr were presented, after which the meeting began with a Prayer by His Eminence Bishop Silouan Moussi, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Byblos, Batroun and Dependencies (Mount Lebanon).

Afterwards, an opening speech was delivered by the presenter of the celebration, the spokesman for the Orthodox Youth Movement (MJO), Mr. Ghassan Al-Hajj Obeid. The ceremony also included several speeches, addressed by the writer Mr. Elias Khoury, entitled “A Message to Bishop Georges Khodr,” which was read on his behalf by his assistant Mrs. Dana Madi, due to his health conditions that prevented him from attending, the Lebanese Minister Rachid Derbas, entitled “George Khodr, the Wide Robe,” and the Lebanese Minister of Culture Mohammad Wissam Al-Murtada. The celebration ended with a speech delivered by the Representative of His Beatitude Patriarch John X, His Eminence Bishop Silouan Moussi.

During the ceremony, some video excerpts of His Eminence Bishop Georges Khodr’s sermons and positions were shown.
