As part of his tour in Lebanon, Dr. Harry Hagopian, Former Director at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and Public International Lawyer at the UK and Ireland, visited the offices of the MECC General Secretariat in Beirut, on Thursday 27 June 2024. He was received by the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs at the head of the General Secretariat’s team.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Abs welcomed Dr. Hagopian, and expressed his pleasure at his visit to the Council’s offices and meeting with the team, praising his rich experiences as well as the lecture he gave on “The Armenian Community in Palestine, Historical & Contemporary Challenges,” on Tuesday 25 June 2024, at the Haigazian University in Beirut.

Afterwards, Mrs. Seta Hadeshian, the MECC Secretary General, presented an overview about Dr. Hagopian’s biography, and welcomed him again. Then, the attendees began to introduced themselves.

For his part, the MECC Guest pointed out that it is difficult for everyone who works with the Middle East Council of Churches to remove the MECC spirit from his blood. He added that in MECC he was able to discover the diversity of the Churches and the richness of the ecumenical movement, which lies in work and not only in principles. Dr. Hagopian also mentioned the importance of the Church’s work as a prophetic voice for the sake of peace and justice.

In addition, the attendees listened to Dr. Harry Hagopian’s work journey, especially in the Church context, and discussed on another level, the circumstances that the Middle East is passing through, especially the ongoing war in Gaza.
