Newly Elected Moderator of the ACT Alliance Governing Board Mr. Nicolàs Rosenthall: "The Language of Love Overcomes the Language of Violence... Together for Justice"

The Final Day of ACT General Assembly Activities in Indonesia

Many phrases describe the gathering of brothers and sisters at the Fourth General Assembly of the "ACT Alliance": mutual love, continuous cooperation, and a promising future...

With this unifying Ecumenical spirit, ACT continued the work of its Fourth General Assembly on its final day, Friday, November 1, 2024, in the Yogyakarta region, Indonesia, in the presence of ACT Alliance General Secretary Mr. Rudelmar Bueno de Faria and World Council of Churches General Secretary Reverend Professor Dr. Jerry Pillay.

This event, hosted by the Indonesian YAKKUM Center, was characterized by an Ecumenical atmosphere full of positivity, where participants from all over the world gathered in an oasis of faith and hope. They all emphasized the need to continue communication among themselves—the ACT family, its staff, and representatives of its members from regional and international bodies, including the Middle East Council of Churches.

After the Morning Prayer, consecutive sessions were held dedicated to voting on the content of the final statements to be issued by the General Assembly after completing their study, discussion, and review.

Subsequently, the attendees elected a new Governing Board for ACT Alliance, which includes representatives from different regions and continents around the world, among them Eng. Samer Laham, the nominee of the Middle East Council of Churches and Director of its Department of Diakonia and Social Service.

On this occasion, the newly elected Moderator of the ACT Alliance Governing Board, Mr. Nicolàs Rosenthall, delivered a speech in which he emphasized that the language of love overcomes the language of violence, noting that they felt the presence of Jesus Christ greatly during the General Assembly's work. He added, "We come together for justice, and we have much work in the coming period." He concluded his speech by raising a Prayer to God to grant them determination in achieving their new tasks.

Then, there were closing words of thanks delivered by Ms. Archinta, Director of Development and Humanitarian Programs at YAKKUM Center Indonesia; ACT Alliance General Secretary Mr. Rudelmar Bueno de Faria; and World Council of Churches General Secretary Reverend Professor Dr. Jerry Pillay, who officially announced the conclusion of the General Assembly's activities, bearing the slogan "Hope in Action, Together for Justice."

After the Closing Prayer and the new Governing Board meeting, participants gathered in a cultural evening dedicated to the European region of ACT Alliance.
