Remedial Classes for 9th Grade Students in Rural Damascus
The Diakonia and Social Service Diakonia, at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), continues to support education and alleviate the financial burdens on families through organizing remedial classes for 9th-grade students in the areas of Erbin, Jaramana, and Sahnaya in rural Damascus, which targeted 410 students.
The course lasted for about two and a half months, during which students received essential information for the core subjects in the curriculum. The aim was to improve the academic level of students to enable them to pass the 9th-grade official exams successfully.
The course was distinguished by the supervision and guidance of the Council’s team, alongside the provision of psychosocial support sessions entitled, “Life skills - a journey with myself”.
During these sessions, students learned how to understand and appreciate themselves, recognize their emotions, and how to deal with them. They were also equipped with skills to handle the pressures they face, protect themselves, and make wise decisions in their lives. The sessions also covered topics like body language, “I-statements,” and effective communication with their social environment.
In addition to the educational lessons, students received hygiene kits, school kits, and winter clothing kits containing essential and useful supplies at the end of the course.
The support extended to the students and their families, who received Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance to promote financial stability and reduce economic burdens.
