Momentum, the Weekly Newsletter from the Middle East Council of Churches

In the new issue of the weekly newsletter Momentum issued by the Middle East Council of Churches, Communication and Public Relations Department, the MECC issues the “Season of Creation” Arabic Guide for this year, under the title “Let Justice and Peace Flow”. MECC translated the booklet into Arabic which is adopted internationally and in different languages. As for the weekly message of the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, it is entitled “Authority, Leadership and Vision”, in which he highlighted the basic concepts on which modern society operates. They are the authority which is the guarantee of social order, the leadership which is the action that identifies, develops and uses existing potentials and resources in society. As well as the vision which includes the shared beliefs and values of the organization and is the basis of the culture of the group or organization.

The issue also includes details about the launching of the “Season of Creation” 2023 in the world and the Middle East, through a webinar organized by the Laudato’Si movement, which was held on Monday 5 June 2023, coinciding with the World Environment Day. This is in addition to a final blessing addressed via video by Father Dr. Antoine Al Ahmar, Director of the Theological and Ecumenical Department at the Middle East Council of Churches, from the “Dog River” in Lebanon.

As well as, the issue presents a video interview with the MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs on the occasion of the 33 anniversary of the founding of Télé Lumière and Noursat, in a special episode entitled "33 Years of Flood of Light", prepared and presented by Father Charbel El Khoury and the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary. It was broadcasted on Saturday 27 May 2023, on Télé Lumière and Noursat.

You can also find a video presenting stories of some of the small investments’ owners whose businesses were damaged by the Beirut Port Blast. Noting that the Middle East Council of Churches, Service and Relief – Diakonia Department, Lebanon’s Office, worked on the restoration of the damaged small businesses and investments in order to help their owners restore their hope and get back their sources of income after they lost everything they owned.

In addition, the issue includes details about the latest developments of the MECC Service and Relief – Diakonia Department, and its various training activities and psychosocial support sessions implemented in Lebanon and Syria.

Moreover, the issue includes many reports issued by MECC after the earthquake, under the name of "Rescue Syria Update" which will keep you informed about the developments of MECC action as well as the overall situation in a context analysis perspective. The MECC will be also publishing other periodical and updated reports. This is in addition to photo albums showing the difficult humanitarian situations in Syria.

Furthermore, the issue includes the Ecumenical Calendar for June 2023 issued by the Middle East Council of Churches, Communication and Public Relations Department, Ecumenical reports, the weekly Prayer, videos, and news of the Middle Eastern Churches.

Additionally, the issue presents a socio-economic overview of the Middle East during May 2023 and the latest updates of the Coronavirus in the region.
