Capacity Building and Skills Development in Jordan
As part of capacities’ improvement and life skill’s development, the Middle East Council of Churches, Service and Relief – Diakonia Department, Jordan Office, with the support of the international organization ACT Alliance, ACT JOR231, and in cooperation with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Amman, implemented two courses to enhance livelihoods. A first course was organized in Amman on elderly companion care, and a second course in Madaba about sewing art. These two courses ended with a graduation ceremony for all participants.
The sewing course in Madaba targeted 20 Syrian and Jordanian women, and included the basics of sewing such as cutting, sewing techniques and recycling, in addition to ways to deal with fabrics of all kinds. Certificates from the Skills Development Authority and the Ministry of Labor were also distributed to the women. As well as, home sewing machines were distributed to the participants who successfully completed the course in order to start their own projects from home, with the aim of ensuring their financial independence to support themselves and their families.
