A Prayer for Mother's Day By Reverend Dr. Rima Nasrallah
On the occasion of Mother's Day, Reverend Dr. Rima Nasrallah, Coordinator of the Eco Justice Unit at the Middle East Council of Churches, prepared a special Prayer and recited it during the Sunday Service, on Sunday 19 March 2023, at the National Evangelical Church in Beirut.
Below you can find the text of the Prayer:
God, you have loved us as a father and a mother. You gave us life and sheltered us with your compassionate wings. We come to you with our concerns trusting in your care.
We thank you on this Mothers’ Day, for the gift of motherhood and the intimate bond that unites a person with a mother. We thank you for all the mother around us and for their efforts to preserve the life of their children and guide them towards you.
We confess that the role of the mother is a very difficult these days. We therefore pray for all the mothers who are trying to balance between the demands of life, work and care for their children.
We pray for the mothers who do cannot feed their children these days, or find shelter for them or give them proper health care.
We pray for the mothers who are raising children on their own because of the death of their partners or separation and have to carry the burden alone.
We pray for the mothers who because of sickness or disability are unable to care for their children as they wish.
We pray for the mothers who are raising children in areas of war and conflict, earthquakes and natural disasters and are constantly worried about their safety and future.
We pray for every mother who is caring for differently abled children or those with special needs and has to exert extra physical and emotional effort without end.
We pray for every mother who chose to raise children not from her own flesh and blood, and took those who are parentless under her wings.
We pray for every mother who is separated from her children because of travel or health and misses their presence.
Be Lord with every mother who lost her children in the womb or after years of love and care. Comfort them and give them from your love and presence.
And finally, we remember all the mothers who have departed from this world to be in your heavenly realm, thankful for their life and the love we have experienced with them.
You, of Lord, are our father and mother and in your embrace we find our home. Hear our prayer, we your sons and daughter as we place all our trust in you, blessed trinity, Amen.
