Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs Conveyed a Letter from H.H Pope Tawadros II to H.H Catholicos Aram I

The Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs headed a delegation from the MECC General Secretariat in a visit to His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church, today, Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Catholicosate in Antelias, Lebanon.

Dr. Abs delivered to His Holiness Catholicos Aram I a special invitation from His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, to participate in the 12th General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches, which will be held in Egypt under the title of “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27), between 16 and 20 May 2022.

His Holiness responded to the invitation and confirmed his participation at the General Assembly heading a delegation from the Armenian Orthodox Church. Then Dr. Abs presented the preparations and activities towards this ecumenical event.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the situation of the Christian presence in the Middle East and the repercussions of the Eastern and international crises in the region. The attendees also commended the necessity of dialogue between religions and cultures aiming at overcoming the crises and conflicts.

The delegation also tackled the MECC ecumenical role as a place of togetherness and its mission in building bridges and bridging distances between the Church families and religions, at the East and West.

At the end, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I offered Dr. Abs and the delegation some of his books which are a historical legacy from the Armenian Orthodox Church.
